Gospel Work: Ethiopia's least-reached peoples
Bilingual prayer-card site with a region map, built on a reproducible offline data pipeline
Gospel Work prints 34 prayer cards for Ethiopia's least-reached people groups. The site presents them as a shuffled slider and a clickable map of Ethiopia's regions in Amharic and English, and every figure on it comes from a data pipeline that can be rerun offline.
The problem
The printed cards were years old. Population and status figures had drifted from the Joshua Project source, and nobody could say which numbers were still right or which region each people group belonged to.
What I built
Pinned Joshua Project datasets and OCHA administrative boundaries live in the repository. Scripts rebuild the people data, photos, region map and region assignments, then write review documents that show what changed. Nothing calls an external API at runtime, so every data change arrives as a diff someone can read.
Results
- A drift report found 124 changed fields across all 34 cards. No card was fully up to date.
- Non-developers correct region assignments and Amharic names by editing two JSON files.
- Any card can be exported as a PNG for sharing.
- Prayer cards
- 34
- Data refresh
- Offline and reproducible
